Does the keto diet pills really work?

Yes, if you are already on the keto diet, not so much when you are not on a keto diet.

Why is this?

First off, do not let anyone fool you into buying ANY pills that will make you lose weight.

There are many pills out there that claim to help you lose weight. I have tried many of them and the only thing I got was a racing heart but no weight loss.

Most diet pills are filled with caffeine that help raise your metabolism. If you do use these pills with a healthy diet and regular exercise, of course it is going to make you lose weight faster. You get more energy from the caffeine and this in turn will make you workouts longer and more intense.

After you workout and the effects of the pills are still going on in your body, you will of course be burning more calories which will translate to more weight loss.

What are keto pills?

Keto pills contain a compound called BHB or Beta-Hydroxubutyrate. BHB is the key component to jump start the body of getting into ketosis. BHB can naturally be produces by the body. There are minimal to no side-effects when this is taken externally.
Keto pills main objection is to get your body into its natural state of fat burning called ketosis.

You can naturally get into ketosis by not eating more than 20 grams of carbohydrates in a day. To give you an example, 20 grams of carbs is like a slice of white bread or about half a 12 oz. Coca Cola.

By not eating carbs your body will start to utilize it own fat storage to fuel itself. This is how people get their energy when fasting. The body can efficiently change its own energy source.

When do keto pills work?

Keto pills work optimally if you are already in ketosis. Your body has already shifted itself from using glucose as its main fuel source to fat (ketones).

Ketones are produced withing the liver by turning fat into ketones.

If you take these ketones exogenous (externally) these can have awesome benefits.

But here is the main catch: in order for you to experience these awesome benefits you have already got to be in ketosis.

By already being in ketosis your body can easily absorb and use these extra ketones to it benefit.

What are these benefits:

  • Mental performance (even more than on normal ketosis)
  • Physical performance (more energy when exercising)
  • dramatically improve your overall sense of well-being.

Why will these pills not work as effective if you are not on the keto diet?

If you are eating a normal western diet (high carb) then these pills will most likely not work for you.

The bodies preferred fuel source is glucose (carbs and sugar). Whenever you put fat and carbs into your body, the body will always make its energy from glucose and not fat. If fat is not utilized by the body as fuel the body is not making and absorbing ketones as its main fuel source.

Some people have told me that while eating carbs the have lost weight on these pills. This will leave me to believe that it is possible that maybe take these pills before bed maybe speeds up the process of fasting while you are sleeping. We all fast when we sleep. When we fast our body will go into a state of ketosis.

But if you are going to eat, bread, pancakes, waffles and drink orange juice the next morning it will defeat the purpose of take these keto pills.

Should you buy keto pills?

I would not waste money on then if you are NOT on the keto diet.

I would definitely give them a try if you are on the keto diet. My recommendation would be to take these pills 2 to 3 months after you have started a keto diet. Why, because the longer you are in ketosis the more efficient your body is going to utilize these exogenous ketones.

What alternatives are there besides keto pills?

Keto by itself is the most powerful diet and lifestyle that I have come across. This is why since discovering keto 2 years ago I am still going strong. Way less hunger, feeling overall way more focused, energized and the big one: 90% less cravings.

Cravings are a big deal for people like me that are addicted to food.

Exercising 2 to 3 times a week helps a lot when on keto. The more calories you burn the faster you can lose weight.

I have friends that have lost over 40 pounds and have never exercised the whole time, so you do not really need to exercise. I just think that exercising is a must if you are on keto or not, to keep your body in shape.

I hate to break it to the ones that are looking for that magic pill it does not exist.

There is a magic solution that I would hold of until everything has failed:

  • Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
  • Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding
  • sleeve gastrectomy
  • duodenal switch with biliopancreatic diversion.

I honestly would prefer to just try to lose weight by myself, but sometimes food has its grips to deep into some people. I have struggled al my life with my weight, but was lucky to do it on my own.

There is no shame if you are just no able to do it by yourself and need help. We all need sometimes help in whatever shape or form.


I have tried keto pills and they were indeed great. They gave me energy and improved my weight lifting.

I have a hard time with the idea of swallowing pills to make me feel better. I would take them again maybe if I want to have a better looking body in the summer, but would hold back on not getting hooked on them to make me feel better.

You can say that I am afraid of getting addicted to them and the feeling that they give me. Sounds familiar? Every documentary that I have seen, an addict has claimed to keep taking drugs just to keep getting that euphoric feeling they crave so much.

Take it to get some extra weight off but do not make it a habit.
